The Regional District of Nanaimo Board approved a 50% reduction in sewer development cost charges for M'akola Development Services' 35-unit supportive housing project at 355 Nicol Street, Nanaimo. The motion carried unanimously with no opposition.
BC Housing, which owns the parcel through the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation, describes the project as a 5-storey residential apartment building with up to 35 studio homes, indoor common areas, central kitchen and laundry facilities, and office space for support staff (bchousing.org). M'akola Development Services is acting as development consultant. The cost-charge reduction applies to sewer DCCs only and removes a financial barrier as the project advances toward building-permit stage. No conditions were attached to the approval.
