Council deferred a rezoning application by Jesse and Cindy Harris at 939 Klahanie Drive, Langford, that would permit a two-lot subdivision of the property. Council directed staff not to refer the application to the Sustainable Development Advisory Committee until an unpermitted building on the site is brought into compliance with all City bylaws and provincial regulations; the motion carried unanimously.
A staff report to the advisory committee (langford.ca) describes the proposed rezoning from Rural Residential 2 to Rural Residential 5, enabling two 1-acre lots. The report also notes that if the rezoning is not supported, the applicants have requested a variance to increase the maximum gross floor area of a carriage house from 90 m² to 325 m². The Times Colonist previously reported that a similar subdivision proposal for the same property was narrowly rejected by council in September 2024 (Times Colonist).
The unpermitted building is now the sole obstacle to advancing the file. No timeline for compliance is set.
